  • Activity: a blog for general readers about legends, folklore and little-known history of Catalonia, in Spanish, Catalan and English.

What you will find here

Chronicles about legends, mysteries and real events in Catalonia, also narrated as audio. Many stories come from oral tradition and we tell them as legends, not as proven facts. Where there are historical facts, we cite the sources at the end of each chronicle. If you spot a mistake, write to us and we will correct it.

Some chronicles are about real places: farmhouses, caves, hermitages, an abandoned sanatorium. Appearing here does not mean they can be visited. Respect private property, protected areas and the rules of each place.

Using the website and comments

You are free to read, listen to and share the chronicles. In return, we ask you not to use the website for anything illegal or to harm it, for example with attacks or automated submissions.

Comments are moderated. We will delete comments that insult or harass, publish other people’s personal data, advertise or have nothing to do with the chronicle. Each person is responsible for what they write.

Stories you send us

If you tell us a legend or something that happened, through the form or by email, you authorise us to use it as the starting point for a chronicle: to research, adapt, translate and publish it on the website, including as audio. This authorisation is non-exclusive and free of charge: your story is still yours and you can tell it wherever you like. If you want your name to appear, tell us; if not, we will not include it.

Only send us what you have the right to share. Do not include health data or intimate details about living people without their permission.

Intellectual property

The texts, the music, the website design and the selection of content belong to Marc Rodríguez Limpangog, unless stated otherwise. You may quote short extracts with a link to the original chronicle (Art. 32 of the Spanish Intellectual Property Act). To reproduce whole chronicles, images or audio, ask us for permission first.

The illustrations and voices generated with artificial intelligence are published under our editorial direction. The law may not protect them as works of authorship; even so, we ask you not to use them for commercial purposes or present them as authentic documents or recordings.

Third-party names, trademarks and works that appear or are cited here belong to their owners. If you think any content infringes your rights, write to us at hola@catalunyaoculta.com and we will look into it straight away.

Artificial intelligence

We use artificial intelligence tools in some parts of the website. We tell you so that you know what you are seeing and hearing (Art. 50 of the EU AI Act, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689).

  • Narrations: the voices that read the chronicles are synthetic, generated with artificial intelligence. Some reproduce the voice of real voice artists who have licensed their voice for this use; those people have not read our texts. Next to each listen button it says “AI-generated voice”.
  • Images: many of the illustrations at the top of the chronicles are generated with AI. They are recreations, not period photographs or portraits of real people.
  • Music: the songs that go with some chronicles are composed by Marc RL with the help of AI tools.
  • Texts: the chronicles are written and reviewed by a person, Marc RL, who is responsible for what is published. The Catalan and English translations are sometimes made with the help of AI tools, and he always reviews them before they are published.

The website has no chatbots or automated assistants, and we do not use AI to make decisions about the people who read it.

Links to other websites

The chronicles link to external sources: archives, libraries, town councils, academic articles. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for what they publish. If a link leads to something unlawful, let us know and we will remove it as soon as we become aware of it (Art. 17 LSSI-CE).

Liability

We check what we publish, but legends change depending on who tells them, and historical research moves on. To the extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that everything is free of errors or that the website will always be available, and we are not liable for damage caused by technical failures or attacks beyond our control, or for the use other people make of the content.

Privacy and cookies

How we handle your data is explained in the Privacy policy. What we store in your browser is explained in the Cookie policy.

Governing law

This notice is governed by Spanish law. If a dispute arises, we will try to settle it by talking. If that is not possible, the courts with jurisdiction under the law will decide; if you are acting as a consumer, the courts of your place of residence.
