The Chilling Mystery of Room 712

The mystery of room 712 at Cardona Castle has drawn the attention of visitors, researchers and lovers of the paranormal. This ancient medieval castle, converted into a parador (one of Spain’s state-run heritage hotels), hides one of Catalunya’s most unsettling legends. For centuries, people have spoken of apparitions, unexplained noises and strange happenings in this place.

Today we look into the story of the White Lady, the tragic figure at the heart of this legend. Why does room 712 remain closed? Is it true that guests have sensed strange presences there? Read on and find out.

The tragic story of the White Lady

According to tradition, in the 11th century, a young Christian noblewoman named Adalés, daughter of the viscount of Cardona, fell in love with a Muslim prince named Abdalá. At the time, relationships like theirs were forbidden and punished.

When her father discovered the romance, he decided to lock her away in the Torre de la Minyona, the castle’s Maiden’s Tower, to avoid disgrace. With no way of reuniting with her beloved, Adalés died of sorrow. Ever since, many claim that her spirit still lingers in the castle, especially in room 712.

(A similar story can be found at the mysterious castle of Torre Salvana, considered one of the most haunted places in Catalunya).

The mysterious room 712

Room 712 at the Parador de Cardona hides a mystery that has unsettled guests and staff alike. Over the years, things have happened there that defy any logical explanation:

  • Strange noises in the middle of the night.
  • Shadows that move when no one is there.
  • Doors and windows that open on their own.
  • Taps that turn on without any human hand.
  • Whispers and unexplained voices.

Some people swear they have woken in the dead of night with the feeling that someone was watching them. Others have described a figure dressed in white reflected in the mirrors.

Things reached such a point that the Parador de Cardona decided to close room 712 to the public. Only guests who ask for it expressly may stay there.

Sleeping in a haunted castle

Beyond the paranormal phenomena, Cardona Castle is an incredible destination. Its medieval architecture, stone corridors and long history make it a place unlike anywhere else in Catalunya.

For anyone after a different kind of stay, a night in this castle is a perfect opportunity. But if you love mystery and the paranormal, room 712 might just become your greatest challenge.
